My name is Valerie and I am a Hound mix. I am very sweet and playful; however, I am a little shy and the staff is helping me work on that. I have just started to learn how to walk on a leash, and I’m getting the hang of it. Running and playing in the yard is so-o-o much fun! I also enjoy playing in the water. Please come to the Shelter so we can get to know each other. It would be truly wonderful if you would pick me as a forever member of your family.
Valerie – Adopted
Byits – Adopted
Chilly – Adopted
I am an over-sized couch potato that would like nothing more than to sit on your big comfy couch with you by my side giving me the lovies I deserve. I am VERY laid back and dogs don’t seem to bother me, but small kids may scare me away. I like to hide under things like a turtle, but I’ll stick my head out for the right person!
Jango -Adopted
Jango is a large Mountain Feist. He is a mature dog, with the calm, loving qualities developed over time. He very much enjoys his walks and being with people; however, he should be the only pet in the house, and there should be no young children.
Roudy – Adopted
They call me Roudy. I am a lovable, well-behaved Terrier mix that gets along with everyone. I am such a “people-guy”, I am very lonely in my kennel and I bark to get someone’s attention. Out of the kennel, I’m a very quiet, happy guy. I know you will want to meet me, so please come to the Shelter. When you take me home with you, I will shower you with the love only I can share.
Ryan – Adopted
I am more reserved than my busybody sister, Reese, and I like to tuck myself into a nice quiet spot and observe from afar. I like to be brushed, as my longer fur requires it. My feet also have a deformity, but that doesn’t stop me from getting where I need to go. I am a unique color, so be sure not to miss me when you come visiting!
Reese – Adopted
Lucas – Male (born 11/06)
My name is Lucas, and I am a large, mixed breed dog. I am a very sweet boy with a great deal of exuberance and I tend to get overly excited at times. My friends here at the Shelter and a trainer have been working with me. I have been doing my homework diligently and the staff says I am making good progress. If you adopt me, I would come with some lessons from my trainer. I would, however, be too much for children. I enjoy going for walks, and I would love to be your jogging companion. Playing ball out in the yard is also one of my favorite activities. When I am in the chill mode, I really, really love to have my belly rubbed. Please visit the Shelter and ask the staff about me. Perhaps we would be perfect companions for one another. Thanks so much.
Denny – Male (born 06/08)
My name is Denny, and I am an extremely loving and energetic Lab. I enjoy going for walks and playing in the yard, and it is also great fun to have you play ball with me and to play with me using my other toys. I’m fortunate to have such wonderful human companions, and I would like to meet you, as well. Perhaps you will select me to become a forever member of your family. Please note, however, that I do not care for other male dogs. That’s just the way it is!
Munchkin – Adopted
My name is Munchkin, and I am a Maltese and Poodle mix. I just LOVE everyone, and I get SO EXCITED when folks come to visit. I enjoy my walks and playing with my stuffed animals. However, my most favorite activity is to be held and cuddled with my human friends. I bet you’ll want to have me as a forever member of your family!
Checkers – Adopted
I was found by our Investigator at Checkers – very skinny and injured. He felt so badly for me, he threw me his hamburger and that’s all it took to convince me to go with him. The vet diagnosed a fractured back leg that is healing, but I’ll probably always walk funny. Therefore, I need a special home without too much craziness. I have gained weight since I get fed well at the ‘bed and breakfast’ the Investigator brought me to. Other cats don’t seem to bother me, and I’d probably be OK with kids that are careful. I do talk a lot because I have so many stories to tell about my life on the run. I’ll never have to worry about that again, though, when you take me home with you!
Sam – Adopted
I am an ADORABLE wanna-be scardey cat that can flatten my ears all the way to my cheeks and then melt like butter when you pick me up. I didn’t know how to play when I came to the Shelter, but I’m learning. I had a rough start in life, but I’m learning how sweet life can be, and then the sweeter I become.
Paws for Mount Dora
“Paws for Mount Dora” will hold a food drive for the Humane Society of Lake County on Sunday, October 10 and on Sunday, December 12, from 11:00 until 3:00. Folks from the Humane Society and Paws Therapy Dogs will be on hand to accept donations of can/dry puppy/kitten food, clay cat litter, bleach, laundry detergent, nyla bones, toys, small and medium dog beds, paper towels, gas cards, and monetary gifts. The Humane Society will be distributing material about their Shelter, information on being a responsible pet owner, and coloring/comic books for the children.
“Paws for Mount Dora” is a way to introduce folks and their dogs to the friendly shops in Mount Dora. It starts at the Mount Dora Sushi, located at Third and Donnelly. There, you will receive a map and a ticket to have stamped by four different shops / restaurants / businesses in Mount Dora. This gives you an opportunity to win some great prizes. “Paws for Mount Dora” is a fun day for you, your family, and your dog. Dogs MUST BE friendly and kept on a leash. Questions? Call Joanne @ 602-4477.
Thank you for your past, present, and future support of the Humane Society of Lake County.
We would not be able to continue or mission without the public’s generosity and understanding.
Tane – Adopted
Murphy – Adopted
Murphy is my name and I may be a Terrier mix; at any rate, I’ll probably become a medium-sized dog. I am a very sweet and adorable little boy, and I love to run and play with my toys and my sister, Mandy. My friends at the Shelter have been teaching me to walk on a leash, and I think I’m ready for you to take me for a walk when you visit me. Hopefully, you pick me as a member of your family.
Meenie – Adopted
Tiger – Adopted
I may not have the stripes, but I have the heart of a tiger and the eagerness of a lion. I am brave and stealthy with a mighty roar, even though I’m tucked into a little package. I love to pretend I’m in the circus and chase balls around and be the clown that makes everybody laugh. Come visit me and I’ll tell you a good joke!
Catcha – Adopted
Eenie – Adopted
Mickey – Adopted
Muffin – Adopted
Moe – Adopted
I am a typical, sweet little loveball that loves anything that moves. I have a beautiful deep shade of gray that makes me very attractive to everyone. I like to romp around with my siblings, and nothing is more fun than a game of catch the string, lose it, and chase it again. Please come visit me. You’ll want to take me home with you.
Toe – Adopted
I am a longer-haired kitten that loves to make a mess out of myself. I am a joy to all who have the pleasure of meeting me. I am the most intelligent of my litter (because I’m the girl) and I love to boss the others around. I will need a good brushing a few times a week to keep my beautiful hair-do kempt. Come see me!
R.C. – Adopted
