Waterfront Fund Raiser

On Thursday, August 19, a fund raiser will be held for the Humane Society of Lake County. This event will take place at Al’s Landing, 111 W. Ruby Street in Tavares. Plan to enjoy the live music, raffles, bike awards, and beer specials that will be offered. You can arrive by boat, sea plane, bike, or car! Representatives from the Humane Society will be present to accept any donations such as dog/cat/puppy/kitten food (canned and dry), clay cat litter, cleaning supplies (bleach, laundry detergent, paper towels), or monetary gifts. Thank you for your participation.

Paws for Mount Dora

“Paws for Mount Dora” will hold a food drive for the Humane Society of Lake County on Sunday, October 10 and on Sunday, December 12, from 11:00 until 3:00. Folks from the Humane Society and Paws Therapy Dogs will be on hand to accept donations of can/dry puppy/kitten food, clay cat litter, bleach, laundry detergent, nyla bones, toys, small and medium dog beds, paper towels, gas cards, and monetary gifts. The Humane Society will be distributing material about their Shelter, information on being a responsible pet owner, and coloring/comic books for the children.

“Paws for Mount Dora” is a way to introduce folks and their dogs to the friendly shops in Mount Dora. It starts at the Mount Dora Sushi, located at Third and Donnelly. There, you will receive a map and a ticket to have stamped by four different shops / restaurants / businesses in Mount Dora. This gives you an opportunity to win some great prizes. “Paws for Mount Dora” is a fun day for you, your family, and your dog. Dogs MUST BE friendly and kept on a leash. Questions? Yappy Hour to Benefit the Humane Society

BRING YOUR POOCH to 4th and Donnelly, Mt. Dora.

Piglet’s Pantry and The Wine Den are supporting The Humane Society of Lake County the third Friday of each month. For the Doggies, there are “pupcakes” and cookies. For Doggie Moms and Dads, there are hors d’oeuvres and by-the-glass wine specials. During the hours from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., 10% of all proceeds will be donated to The Humane Society. Carla and Christina, thank you for your tremendous support and generosity to the Humane Society. Thank you, also, to the patrons and animal lovers who helped them surpass their 2009 goal for the Humane Society.

Maggie – A Special-Needs Dog

Maggie is a special-needs dog. She is a two-year-old medium-sized, mixed breed. Maggie is a very sweet and loving dog. She is, however, extremely afraid of new people and new surroundings. We do not know what happened to Maggie in her past to cause her to be so fearful. What we do know, though, is that Maggie needs someone with the time and patience she will require to adjust to a new home and environment. Maggie does adjust, but just in baby steps. She will, no doubt, do best in a quiet, adult environment. If you give her the time and love she needs, she will return it tenfold. We invite you to come to the Shelter and spend time with Maggie. Maybe you will fall in love with her as much as the staff has!

Christmas Party for the Animals

On December 4, 2010, from 11:00 until 2:00, the Humane Society of Lake County will host a its annual Christmas Party for the Animals at the Shelter on McKinley Road (two miles north of Eustis on SR 19). Please bring your furry family member/s (leashed or in a pet carrier) and have his or her picture taken with Santa! The pictures will be digital and we will give them to you on a disk. Refreshments will be available, and door prizes will be given. The dogs and cats at the Shelter have a wish list which identifies their needs: medium and large nyla bones, large kongs, ropes with knots, non-scoopable kitty litter, canned or dry cat or dog food, treats, and toys. Certified Wildlife Habitat

On March 9, 2009, the National Wildlife Federation recognized the Humane Society’s Memorial Garden as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. This sign was posted in the Garden because the Garden provides the four basic habitat elements needed for wildlife to thrive: food, water, cover, and places to raise young.

Aluminum Cans Benefit the Humane Society
