The Humane Society of Lake County now has a Memorial Garden at its Shelter on McKinley Road in Umatilla. The Memorial Garden has been recognized as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. The purpose of this Garden is to regain the wondrous nature around us that is constantly being driven away, while at the same time, the Garden allows one to memorialize his or her pet.
A remarkable part of the Garden is the “Magic Mailbox to Heaven” which is part of the lovely layout. Children, or anyone, can write a letter to their past pet and place the letter in the mailbox (or mail it to us). In the letter, please give as much information as possible, and Heaven will send a response.
You have several options to memorialize your pet. The Garden has two benches, and each bench will have one 3″x5″ plaque engraved for a donation of $100. The Garden also has two decks. Each deck is made of ten boards. Each board is eight feet long. You may obtain a four-foot piece for a donation of $50 and have your memorial routed. Lastly, the Garden will have stepping stones for a donation of $25 each. Those who memorialize with a stepping stone will have the opportunity to write and/or draw into the stone yourself, as the stone can be made while you are at the Garden.
Please visit the Garden at our Shelter, and see how Mother Nature is responding, already, to the plants and bushes in the Garden.
